These terms describe use of the Breakwaters Consultancy Services website. Breakwaters is a Canadian firm founded in 2023 in Waterloo, Ontario, serving Canadian businesses.

General information and professional advice

Service descriptions, resources, and case studies provide general information. They are not accounting, tax, payroll, financial, or legal advice for your particular circumstances. Requirements vary by business, province, and the work involved, and may change over time. Seek advice based on your records and situation before making decisions.

Enquiries and engagements

Submitting an enquiry, browsing a guide, or requesting a consultation does not create a professional engagement or authorize us to file returns, run payroll, or access accounts. Paid services begin under a signed engagement that sets out the scope, fees, deliverables, responsibilities, and document-sharing arrangements.

The signed engagement governs the services and takes precedence over general website descriptions where they differ. It confirms who prepares and files returns, who approves payroll and remittances, and what information you must provide. Bookkeeping support for tax preparation is distinct from direct tax filing.

The partners are Nuwan Liyanage, CPA (Canada), CPA (Australia), ACMA CGMA (UK), and Navodanee Senanayake, ACMA CGMA (UK). These are individual qualifications; they do not establish a separate firm certification or approval by the CRA.

Fees, timing, and cancellation

Initial consultations, diagnostic reviews, and bookkeeping clean-up assessments are free. The clean-up work itself is quoted separately. Fees for ongoing or project work depend on the agreed scope.

Our stated commercial approach is no onboarding or setup fee, no minimum term, and one week’s notice to end an engagement, subject to the signed agreement. Confirm how notice, outstanding fees, and handover apply before signing. Delivery targets and response times are also subject to the engagement and timely access to the required records.

Outcomes and case studies

Case studies describe the work and qualitative outcomes of specific engagements. They are not guarantees of refunds, savings, filing outcomes, or business performance. Tax treatment and eligibility require individual review.

Using this website

Use the website for lawful enquiries and information. Do not attempt unauthorized access, interfere with its operation, or send information you are not authorized to share. Keep sensitive employee, financial, and account-access information out of the public enquiry form; arrange the agreed secure portal for client documents.

Privacy, updates, and questions

Read the privacy notice for information about enquiries and service-provider involvement. We may update website content and these terms as the services or website arrangements change. The date above identifies the latest update; website changes do not amend an existing signed engagement by themselves.
